The hollow tree is about 700 to 800 years old Western red cedar that had been naturally hollowed out. This tree stamp has been popular tourist site since the opening of Stanley park in 1886.

Although the tree had been dead for many years, it was badly damaged and tilted by the big storm in 2007. The park board decided to removed the tree for public safely, but many people wanted to save the tree. Now, the hollow tree has been remounted and still standing there for visitors.
